Muniré Armstrong

Producer and Founder

 

Muniré Armstrong, a Turkish/Canadian producer based in Toronto, holds an MA degree in Cinema and a BSc degree in Computer Engineering. After working a decade in the telecommunications sector, she transitioned to the film industry.

With a portfolio comprising nine feature films alongside numerous short and documentary films, her work spans across multiple countries. Her most recent feature film, 'The Protector' (directed by Lenin M. Sivam) filmed in Northern Ontario, premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival in 2022. It has been showcased at various national and international film festivals and honored as the opening film for festivals such as Blood in the Snow and Sault Film Festivals, as well as the closing film of the Jaffna Film Festival in Sri Lanka. Distributed by Level Films in Canada and Hewes Pictures internationally, the movie has seen theatrical releases in select US theaters and is available for streaming on platforms like iTunes, Amazon Prime, Dish TV Network, Vudu, Tubi, and others.

Armstrong's credits also include co-producing 'Tainted' (director: Brent Cote, 2019) and 'Witches in the Woods' (director: Jordan Barker, 2018). Additionally, she co-created and co-produced the fictional web series 'Ashbridge,' whose first season aired on CBC GEM in June 2019 in collaboration with Ravenwest Films.

Among her other significant works are 'Kreuzberg,' a feature film premiered at The Montreal World Film Festival, shot in Berlin, Germany, and directed by Carl Bessai (distributed by Industry Works, available on Tubi). 'Bikini Moon,' shot in New York City and directed by Oscar-nominated Milcho Manchevski in 2016, premiered at the Sao Paolo International Festival and screened at numerous international film festivals (Shanghai, Cinequest, Nashville, Istanbul). The film had a theatrical release in the USA and is currently distributed by Flix Premier and UMC (SVOD) in the USA. 'The Waiting Room,' directed by Igor Drljaca in 2015 and funded by Telefilm, HGF, and Art Councils, premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival (available on Tubi and CBC Gem). Also, 'White as Snow' (2010, Turkey/Greece coproduction) directed by Selim Gunes, premiered at the Chicago Film Festival in 2010 and earned recognition at various international festivals.

Presently, Armstrong is involved in the development and production of several films and episodic fictional and factual series, collaborating with Canadian and international partners.

Su Baloglu

Producer

Su embarked on her journey in film production in Istanbul back in 2014. Notable among her credits is "Her First" (2018), a project she co-directed, which made waves at prestigious events such as the Istanbul Film Festival, Adana Film Festival, Houston Turkish Film Festival, and found a place in the CNC Images de la Culture catalogue as well as the streaming platform BluTV. Another significant work is "Mamaville" (2020), which left its mark at the Sarajevo International Film Festival, Oberhausen Short Film Festival, and clinched the Best Short Film award at the Golden Orange Film Festival. Notably, it also earned the Festival International Signes de Nuit Special Jury Prize. Mamaville (2020 - Sarajevo International Film Festival, Oberhausen Short Film Festival, Golden Orange Film Festival Best Short Film award, Festival International Signes de Nuit Special Jury Prize. Su is currently pursuing a PhD in Cinema Studies at the University of Toronto, and simultaneously continues to to develop theatrical and episodic content at YN Films.
